Dr. Shomstein attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where he completed a rigorous dual degree program to receive his medical degree as well as his MBA degree. He completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Louisiana State University (LSU) in New Orleans. Dr. Shomstein went on to be accepted into the highly competitive accredited pain medicine fellowship at LSU which focused on proper diagnosis and treatment of pain using both medical management and procedures such as epidurals, spinal cord stimulators and joint injections.

In his pastime, Dr. Shomstein enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking in all the beautiful parks around St. Louis and taking his dog, Lexi, for a walk. He is also an avid reader and enjoys learning mathematics and physics. ​
